4-5 year olds
In Reception this term, we will be learning all about Celebrations and Festivals and why it is good to be us. We will explore a range of festivals, celebrations and special days from around the world, and the meaning behind why these are celebrated. The children will have the opportunity to plan and take part in their own Diwali party, wedding and Christmas sing along. We will be reading the Elmer story and using this to reflect on why we are special, unique and it is good to be us.
Throughout our phonics learning we are continuing to focus on the sounds we have learnt so far, as well as building our knowledge of sounds that are new to us. Children will be reading simple words and sentences and talking about what they have read. We will use picture clues to help the children and encourage the use of robot arms to help with blending and segmenting new words. The children will then be putting this knowledge into action in their writing, ensuring each time we write, there is clear purpose and reason!
Throughout our mathematics learning, we will continue to build our knowledge of number, subtraction and addition. Children will begin to record numbers and number sentences to show what they have found. Through our topic learning, we will begin to explore money, measure and patterns.
