4-5 year olds
In Reception this term, we will be learning all about Creation. We will explore how in the church, we believe the world was created, alongside other biblical stories such as ‘Noah and the Whale’ and ‘David and Goliath’. We will then move on to looking closely at our solar system, the planets, our stars and moon. Exploring light and dark, gravity, the order of the planets and some of the famous people who have made the journey into space. Children will have the opportunity to discover more about the solar system through role play, small word and craft activities.
Throughout our phonics learning we are continuing to focus on the sounds we have learnt so far, as well as distinguishing between consonants and vowels. Children will also continue learn about adjacent consonants. We will be using all of this knowledge to read captions, sentences and short stories, in which children will be asked to talk about what they have read and predict what might happen next.
Throughout our mathematics learning, will also be using our topic to explore shapes and measure further. Looking at solving problems involving weighing, measuring, sorting, the names of 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.
