6-7 year olds
During the first half of the summer term, Year 2 will be beginning a new topic – ‘Attack! The Celts are coming!’ We will be learning all about how the Celtic people lived in the Stone Age. We will cover: settlements, food and clothing. To bring our topic to life we will visit Flag Fen and see a real roundhouse and other Celtic artefacts.
A large proportion of our English lessons will be focusing on traditional tales and information texts about the Celts. We will be focusing on writing a variety of sentence types, statements, questions and exclamation sentences. We will be using Little Red Riding Hood to explore dialogue in texts. In Phonics and grammar, we will focus on word types within sentences, for example, nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.
During our Maths sessions, we will concentrate on mental and written methods in all four operations. We will revisit fractions of shapes and numbers. Throughout the term, we will practice calculations, word problems and open-ended investigations in preparation for your child’s SATs.
In Guided Reading, there will be a heavy focus on comprehending a text, finding the answer in the text as opposed to giving an opinion.
