6-7 year olds
We are so pleased to welcome you back for another half term. In school we are taking part in a challenge to see which class can get to the highest reading total across the term. All of the children are trying really hard to work as a team. It would be really great if all of them can read every night. Please encourage the children to write their own comments in their purple books.
This term we will be learning about The Gunpowder Plot and looking at significant people in Britain: Guy Fawkes and Edith Cavell. We will compare these famous people and explore why they are still remembered today.
Our English lessons will focus on writing a variety of sentence types, statements and questions. We will use ‘The Gunpowder Plot’ to explore dialogue in texts. In Phonics and grammar, we will focus on word types within sentences, for example, nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.
During our Maths sessions, we will concentrate on mental and written methods in all four operations. We will introduce fractions of shapes and numbers. Throughout the term, we will practice calculations, word problems and open-ended investigations to develop their fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills.
